NOSCEF Urges Tinubu to Reverse Petrol Price Increase

The Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF), led by Chairman Elder Sunday Oibe, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against further increasing petrol prices, which they argue is pushing Nigerians beyond their limits. Following a recent price adjustment by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which raised the gantry price of petrol from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre effective September 12, 2026, many filling stations have begun selling petrol at around ₦1,400 and above per litre.

NOSCEF emphasized that the patience of Nigerians should not be mistaken for acceptance of ongoing economic hardship, as many are already struggling with rising food prices and transportation costs. The forum urged the government to consider alternative revenue sources to alleviate the financial burden on citizens rather than relying on increased petrol prices.

They called for policies that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and address pressing issues such as the cost of living, unemployment, and infrastructure decay.
