Court Orders Access to Lawyers for Adeniyi Adeyemi

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ruled that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) must grant Adeniyi Adeyemi, the detained self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, access to his lawyers. This decision was made by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on Thursday during a fundamental rights suit filed on Adeyemi’s behalf.

However, the court did not grant Adeyemi's requests for release, bail, or access to medical treatment, stating that these matters would require a hearing from the respondents first. The court has ordered the IGP, the police, and the AGF to provide justification within 72 hours as to why the remaining reliefs sought by Adeyemi should not be granted.

The case has been adjourned until September 9 for the respondents to present their arguments. Adeyemi's requests included an order for his release from custody, bail pending the suit's determination, access to medical practitioners of his choice, and an injunction against police interrogation without his lawyer present.
