Ex-Benue Councillor Remanded for Assault Charges

Daniel Ujah, a 43-year-old former councillor of Awume-Icho Ward in Ohimini Local Government Area, has been remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre following allegations of assault and attempted culpable homicide. The Nigeria Police arraigned Ujah on charges including criminal trespass, intimidation, and causing grievous hurt, based on a petition from Rebecca Adole.

The First Information Report (FIR) indicates that on August 28, 2026, Ujah allegedly trespassed into the compound of Amina Iduh, Adole's mother, where he assaulted her, causing significant injuries and threatening her life. Ujah pleaded not guilty to the charges during the court proceedings on Wednesday.

His counsel, Rev. O. Simon, requested bail, which was opposed by prosecuting counsel Inspector Nancy Alechenu.

The presiding magistrate, Hasia Garuba, ordered Ujah's remand and adjourned the case until September 22, 2026, for further mention.
