Court Grants Adeyemi Access to Lawyers Amid PFIPC Case

On September 3, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, ordered the Federal Government to grant Adeniyi Adeyemi, a detained suspect associated with the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), unrestricted access to his chosen lawyers at all reasonable hours. This ruling came in response to a fundamental rights motion filed by Adeyemi's counsel, M.B.

Abdulazeez. The court specifically granted the sixth relief requested, directing the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, and other relevant authorities to allow Adeyemi unfettered access to legal representation while in custody.

Adeyemi had sought six orders concerning his detention, bail, medical treatment, and legal representation during interrogations. While the court granted access to legal practitioners, it deferred decisions on bail and other substantive requests pending a response from the authorities, giving them 72 hours to show cause.

The case was adjourned until September 9, 2023.
