Council DG Adeyemi Detained Over Fraud Charges

Adeyemi, the Director General of a council, was detained after Justice Moham Umar ordered his immediate arrest for failing to appear in court on charges of forgery and impersonation. The charges, which include eight counts related to fraud, were filed on September 30, 2025.

Despite being listed for trial, Adeyemi repeatedly failed to appear, prompting the prosecution, led by Wisdom Madaki, to request a bench warrant. Defense counsel Genesi Franci cited threats to Adeyemi's life as the reason for his absence.

Justice Umar granted the prosecution's request, issuing a warrant for Adeyemi's arrest. He was subsequently apprehended in Osun State by an intelligence response team.

The case has drawn significant public interest, especially regarding allegations of mismanagement involving a budget of N400 million and the use of fake documents to open a bank account. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been directed to investigate the matter.
