Calls for Independent Probe into Alleged Phantom Council

The push for an independent investigation into the alleged "phantom council" involving Femi Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi is gaining momentum. Allegations suggest that a fictitious council was created, with a budget allocation of N1.3 billion in the 2026 budget, purportedly to employ 300 staff members at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

Gbajabiamila has dismissed the existence of such a council, while Adeyemi has countered this claim, asserting that it is an attempt to silence legitimate concerns. Civil society organizations, including the Civil Rights and Civic Education (CHRICE), are calling for the suspension of Gbajabiamila and an independent investigative panel to scrutinize the matter.

The allegations also include claims of a N400 million payment made to Gbajabiamila's proxy and demands for accountability from government institutions. The investigation is urged to extend beyond Adeyemi to uncover a broader network of corruption within public institutions.
