PSN's Munirat Bello Advocates for Enhanced Drug Regulation

Munirat Kikelomo Bello, the newly elected Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Kwara State, emphasized the need for stronger drug regulation during an interview in Ilorin. As the first female pharmacist to lead the PSN in the state, she identified the country's drug distribution system as a significant concern that requires urgent attention.

Bello stated that the implementation of existing national guidelines on drug distribution is crucial to ensure that medicines reach Nigerians through regulated channels. She highlighted the risks associated with unlicensed outlets, including inappropriate medication and drug abuse.

Her administration plans to collaborate with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), the Ministry of Health, and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to enhance regulation in the pharmaceutical sector. Bello also called for improved cooperation between the PSN and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to address drug supply and misuse.

She aims to increase public education on medication safety and rational drug use while prioritizing the welfare of pharmacists across various sectors.
