Philippine Forces Kill 10 Militants in Marantao Clash

On Friday, Philippine security forces engaged in a gunfight that resulted in the deaths of 10 alleged Islamist militants, including Amerol Mangoranca, the leader of the armed group Maut Dawlah Islamiya. The confrontation occurred in Marantao, where police and soldiers attempted to serve arrest warrants for murder, homicide, and kidnapping against Mangoranca's group.

The firefight lasted for approximately one hour and involved the rebel leader's wife and three other women, who were reported unharmed, along with an infant recovered from the scene. Government forces reported no casualties on their side and recovered gun explosives.

The group is suspected of being behind a January attack that killed four soldiers and wounded others. Major General Yegor Barroquillo, commanding the Philippine Army's First Infantry Division, noted that the slain gunmen were part of a network responsible for the Marawi siege in 2017, which resulted in significant violence and loss of life.
