NASC and PIND Partner to Boost Seed Access in Niger Delta

The National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC) and the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) have entered a two-year partnership to enhance access to certified seeds for farmers in the Niger Delta. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed at NASC’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

This collaboration aims to expand community-based seed production, strengthen certification and inspection processes, and mobilize investment in Nigeria’s seed industry. NASC Director-General, Hon. Fatuhu Muhammed, stated that the agreement would improve quality-assurance services for farmers and seed producers.

PIND’s Executive Director, Mr. Sam Ogbemi Daibo, emphasized the need for farmers to access certified planting materials. The partnership builds on previous collaborations since 2016 and will focus on expanding NASC-certified community seed multiplication, promoting domestic seed production for high-demand vegetables, and extending NASC’s Licensed Seed Inspectors Scheme into the Niger Delta.
