NASC Launches Training for Seed Entrepreneurs in Nigeria

The National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) has commenced a training program for prospective Certified Seed Entrepreneurs (CSEs) to enhance the quality of seed yam production in Nigeria. The one-day mandatory training, organized in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) under the PROSSIVA Project, was led by NASC's Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Fatuhu Muhammed, who emphasized the importance of access to quality planting materials for agricultural productivity and food security.

Represented by Mal. Dahiru Rabiu, the Director of the DG’s Office, Muhammed highlighted the necessity of a regulated seed yam production system, citing the National Agricultural Seeds Council Act, 2019, which mandates registration for commercial seed production.

He urged participants to comply with regulations regarding registration, production, certification, and marketing. The NASC aims to foster a sustainable seed yam industry by collaborating with various stakeholders and ensuring quality assurance and traceability in seed production.
