Plateau Igbo Group Applauds Mutfwang's Civil War Apology

The Izu Umunna Cultural Association (IUCA), an Igbo socio-cultural organization, praised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his recent apology to the Igbo people concerning the Nigerian Civil War. During a visit from Igbo leaders representing the 17 local government areas of Plateau State, Mutfwang encouraged the Igbo community to move past historical grievances and contribute positively to Nigeria's development.

He characterized the Civil War as a tragic manipulation of citizens and expressed regret over the conflict. However, his comments faced backlash from some Plateau stakeholders, including former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung and former Commissioner for Information Dan Manjang, who felt the governor unfairly blamed Plateau residents.

The Hausa community also called for a similar apology regarding indigene-ship issues. Despite the criticism, IUCA, led by President Jerry Egede and Secretary Jude Owuamanam, deemed Mutfwang's apology a significant step toward reconciliation, emphasizing the need for healing in Nigeria and pledging support for the governor's administration.
