Plateau State Launches 1.5MW Solar Mini-Grid Project

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, alongside the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), inaugurated the construction of a 1.5-megawatt interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid in Pankshin Local Government Area. This project, funded by the REA under the Federal Government’s renewable energy programme and executed by MASK Nigeria Limited in collaboration with the Jos Electricity Distribution Company, is part of 48 mini-grid projects aimed at expanding access to clean electricity nationwide.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Mutfwang emphasized the project's significance in bolstering Plateau State's energy sector and fostering a conducive environment for businesses and households. He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state through strategic investments in renewable energy and infrastructure.

Mutfwang also revealed plans for 10 additional solar mini-grid projects and highlighted collaborations with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to enhance electricity transmission. He assured that all necessary approvals for the project were secured and urged community members to protect the facility from vandalism.
