PMDC, TRICentre To Strengthen Community-based Justice System

The Plateau MultiDoor Courthouse (PMDC) and the TRICentre have joined forces to enhance the community-based justice system in Plateau State. The Tattaaunawa Roundtable Initiative, a collaborative effort supported by the Swedish Government and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), aims to improve access to justice, particularly for women's rights and land property issues.

A recent workshop brought together traditional leaders from six local government areas to reaffirm their crucial role in justice delivery and grassroots peacebuilding. The PMDC Chairperson, Hon Justice Nafisah Lawal, emphasized the importance of traditional leaders in advancing access to justice and reducing the burden on the formal judicial system.

The NRC program manager highlighted the need for communities to embrace Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a complementary path to justice. The workshop signifies a significant milestone in the partnership between civil society, government institutions, and traditional structures to create a more accessible and culturally resonant justice system in Plateau State.
