Lagos Police Arrest 135 Cultists, Seize 26 Firearms

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Police Command, under the direction of CP Tijani Fatai, announced the arrest of 135 suspected cultists and the recovery of 26 firearms during coordinated raids across identified criminal hideouts in the state. The operation was aimed at preventing cult-related violence associated with the annual 7/7 celebrations.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, disclosed that the raids were conducted simultaneously in various locations based on credible intelligence indicating plans by rival cult groups to engage in violent confrontations. The items recovered during the operation included 26 firearms, 16 dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, battle axes, daggers, knives, cult insignia, assorted charms, 11 bottles of different alcoholic substances, suspected Indian hemp, illicit drugs, and six mobile phones.

The police stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend members of the criminal gangs involved, and the arrested suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
