Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Man for Producing Fake Dry Gin

On September 26, 2026, at approximately 1:45 pm, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested 40-year-old Ubong Ntiense in Ikot Ekpene for the alleged production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic beverages. Ntiense, a native of Ibiaku Village in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area and residing along Abak Road, was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation while transporting five cartons of suspected fake dry gin labeled "Pointers Special Dry Gin" to Essien Udim Local Government Area.

Each carton contained 24 bottles, totaling 120 bottles. Following his arrest, Ntiense confessed to his involvement in the production of the counterfeit drinks.

The police executed a search warrant at his residence, recovering materials used in the production of the adulterated beverages. Commissioner of Police CP Baba Azare emphasized the seriousness of the issue, warning those involved in the manufacture and sale of counterfeit alcoholic beverages to cease their activities.
