Man Arrested for Setting Wife Ablaze in Lokoja Incident

Jacob Irewa was arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kill his wife, Berida Irawo, by setting her ablaze in the Felele area of Lokoja on Friday at approximately 8:30 p.m. The incident arose from a domestic disagreement after Berida reportedly burnt some of Jacob's clothes, believing they were worn out.

This action provoked Jacob, who threatened her before fetching petrol from his motorcycle and igniting her. Fortunately, Berida survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at Honey Gold Hospital in Felele.

During police interrogation, Jacob confessed to the act. The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, condemned the violence and emphasized the Command's zero tolerance for domestic abuse.

He urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and warned against actions that endanger lives. The police confirmed that Jacob would be charged in court following the completion of their investigation.
