Woman Arrested for Co-Wife's Newborn Death in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command arrested Rabi Abubakar in Daba Village for allegedly scalding her pregnant co-wife during a domestic altercation on July 17, 2026. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, suffered severe burns and was hospitalized at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she gave birth to a baby boy on July 19, 2026.

Unfortunately, the newborn died the same day due to severe burn injuries. The police received the report of the incident on July 22, 2026, and upon investigation, Rabi Abubakar was traced and arrested.

During preliminary interrogation, she confessed to the crime. The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and assured the public of diligent prosecution while urging peaceful dispute resolution and reporting of domestic violence cases to the police.
