Man Arrested for Sharing Fake Bandit Attack Video in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command arrested Sundai Olawal for allegedly disseminating false information regarding a bandit attack in the Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The arrest occurred on June 14, 2026, following a video that circulated on social media on June 12, 2026, which falsely claimed that bandits had invaded the area.

The police stated that the video was confirmed to be false after an investigation. Olawal confessed to sharing the misleading content but could not provide a satisfactory reason for his actions.

Michael Falad, the State Commissioner of Police, emphasized that the command would not tolerate the spread of fake news that could incite panic among the public. He advised the public to verify information before sharing it on social media.
