Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Alleged Murder of Leader

On July 19, 2026, the Bauchi State Police Command arrested 40-year-old Clement Anthoni in connection with the murder of 55-year-old Jacob Batur, a community leader. The police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, reported that the incident took place in Unguwar Nga, Bauchi Local Government Area, where Anthoni allegedly used a locally made single-barrel firearm to attack Batur, resulting in serious gunshot injuries to his right rib.

Batur was left unconscious and was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. Following the incident, police operations led to the recovery of the firearm and empty cartridges.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, and the suspect will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. Commissioner of Police Sani Omolori Aliyu condemned the violent act and assured the public of the command's commitment to tackling violent crime while urging residents to refrain from unlawful possession of firearms and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
