Delta Police Arrest Nine for Illegal Roadblocks, Extortion

The Delta State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in a statewide operation aimed at eliminating illegal roadblocks and unauthorized revenue collection along highways. This enforcement exercise commenced on Friday, following a directive from the Federal Government to combat extortion and criminal activities on Nigerian roads.

SP Bright Edafe, the state police public relations officer, stated that the operation focused on notorious areas disrupting free movement and endangering motorists. The arrests occurred at strategic locations, including the Head Bridge axis at the Delta-Anambra boundary and the Benin-Asaba Expressway near Agbor.

All suspects are currently in custody and will face charges after investigations are completed. The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to restoring order on highways and announced that similar operations would be conducted in other areas to ensure safe travel for motorists and commuters without harassment or illegal levies.
