Nine Arrested in Jigawa for Market Violence and Homicide

The Jigawa State Police Command arrested nine suspects linked to separate incidents of culpable homicide, an attack on a police facility, and violent disturbances at Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday.

The unrest began on July 26, 2026, following a fight between a soldier and Biniya Alhaji Ibrahim, 25, from Miga Local Government Area, which resulted in Ibrahim's death due to a stabbing. The situation escalated, leading to attacks on security personnel and property.

Two suspects, Muhammed Muhammed, 22, and Faridu Mohammed, were arrested for their involvement in the attack. Additionally, on August 2, 2026, six more suspects were apprehended for attacking vigilante members, resulting in one fatality.

The police also recovered six cows abandoned during the unrest. Ongoing efforts are being made to apprehend other suspects involved in these incidents.
