Oyo Police Arrest Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen Motorcycle

On July 16, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested Shafiu Nuhu, a robbery suspect, who allegedly attacked and robbed commercial motorcyclist Muhammadu Kamilu in Ibadan. The attack occurred along Adeniji Estate, where Nuhu reportedly used an iron hammer to assault Kamilu and steal his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registered number AJW 842 QU.

Following credible information from the public, the police's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) swiftly mobilized to the scene, leading to Nuhu's arrest and the recovery of the stolen motorcycle. Kamilu sustained injuries during the attack but was assisted by a good Samaritan, Nathaniel Ibrahim, who intervened and took him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

During interrogation, Nuhu confessed to being a lone armed robber specializing in attacks on commercial motorcyclists in the Ibadan area. The police are continuing their investigation to determine if he is involved in similar criminal activities.

Oyo State Police Commissioner Abimbola Olugbenga commended the public for their vigilance and urged residents to remain security conscious.
