Oyo Police Arrest Suspect in ₦3 Million Kidnap Threat

The Oyo State Police Command arrested a suspect linked to a ₦3 million kidnap-and-kill threat against Metu Jilani, a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki. The police received a report on September 19, 2026, detailing that Jilani had received threatening calls from unknown individuals on September 13, claiming they were contracted to kidnap and kill him and his family.

The callers demanded ₦3 million, providing an account belonging to Muhydeen Salihu, a Point-of-Sale operator in Gwasoro Village, Kwara State, for the payment. Jilani transferred ₦100,000, which led to the identification of suspects attempting to withdraw the funds.

On September 18, Hantsi Abdullahi was apprehended while trying to collect the money, while his accomplice, Hantsi Liman, escaped. Abdullahi was attacked by a mob post-arrest but was taken to the hospital for treatment.

CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga has ordered a thorough investigation to apprehend all involved.
