Sokoto Police Arrest Drug Baron, Recover Stolen Livestock

On May 27, 2026, the Sokoto State Police Command arrested suspected drug baron Ummaru Abubakar Gugar during a routine stop and search operation along the Kebbi-Sokoto road. Gugar was found with a large quantity of Indian hemp and other controlled substances, including 10 rubber containers of Axzol tablets and D5 tablets.

A second suspect escaped the scene. On May 30, 2026, the police's anti-kidnap unit successfully repelled a bandit attack in Zabori, Tambaranga, and Gidan Yero villages, following a distress call.

During this operation, Musa Usman was arrested, and 11 cows and five sheep believed to be rustled were recovered. Sokoto State Police Commissioner Hayatu Hassan Shaffa praised the officers for their bravery and emphasized the need for community support in combating drug trafficking and banditry.
