Police Launch Rescue for Six Abducted Clerics in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has launched a coordinated rescue operation to secure the release of six Islamic clerics who were abducted by armed bandits on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at approximately 11:30 am. The clerics were traveling to Talata Mafara when they were ambushed along the Dakko–Damri feeder road.

Yazid Abubakar, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the assailants were armed with sophisticated weapons. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bakura Division mobilized police personnel, including the Vigilante and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in collaboration with other security agencies to the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bello, has directed the operatives to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. The command is also appealing to the public for credible information to assist in the operation.

Additionally, the Nigerian Army reported that the clerics were kidnapped at the residence of former governor Abdul’aziz Yari in Talata Mafara.
