Police Blame Hoodlums for Ikire Shooting, Two Dead

On Monday, suspected hoodlums attacked a police patrol team from the Ikire Division along the Ibadan–Ife Expressway, leading to the deaths of two civilians, Nurení Sobowale, aged 49, and Saheed Akinrole, aged 43. The attack occurred around 11 am while the patrol team was responding to a distress call about an alleged abduction.

The assailants opened fire on the officers, resulting in the theft of an AK-47 service rifle, which was then used to shoot indiscriminately, causing the fatalities. Two police officers were also injured and were initially treated at a nearby hospital before being referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for advanced care.

The Osun State Police Command, led by Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the attack and has initiated a comprehensive investigation, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding the assailants.
