Police Uncover N1bn Vehicle Fraud Syndicate in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command announced the dismantling of an alleged vehicle fraud syndicate that defrauded automobile dealers of exotic vehicles valued at N1 billion. Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

The investigation led to the arrest of Fatai Balogun, identified as the alleged ringleader, and Ismaila Olamilekan, also known as Otunba Jaji. The police received multiple complaints from different victims, prompting a thorough investigation that revealed a coordinated criminal operation.

The syndicate reportedly specialized in obtaining exotic vehicles from unsuspecting dealers by issuing dud post-dated cheques. Balogun confessed to participating in fraudulent transactions and disclosed that Olamilekan remained at large.

The investigation uncovered that Balogun had already been under investigation for similar offenses and was linked to the fraudulent acquisition of 12 exotic vehicles. The police recovered several vehicles, including a 2010 Toyota RAV4 and a 2017 Toyota Highlander, and are continuing efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in the syndicate.
