FCT Police Detain Officers for ₦40,000 Extortion in Abuja

The FCT Police Command has taken action against officers accused of extorting ₦40,000 from a resident along Wuye-Utako Road, near Salem Church, in Abuja. The officers were identified after a video circulated on social media, showing a man claiming that on August 20, 2026, a police officer collected the money despite verifying his documents.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the officers are currently in custody. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, has reiterated the Command's commitment to addressing police misconduct, stating that any officer found guilty will face disciplinary and legal action.

The Command has invited the complainant to provide an official statement to assist in the investigation. This incident follows ongoing public complaints regarding police extortion at checkpoints in Abuja, with previous warnings issued by CP Sanusi against such practices.
