Delta Police Foil Cult Initiation, Recover Weapons and Vehicles

The Delta State Police Command successfully foiled a suspected cult initiation ceremony in Orogun, located in the Ughelli North Local Government Area. The operation occurred following credible intelligence received early on a Sunday.

Members of the Black Axe confraternity were allegedly conducting the initiation ceremony inside a forest. Upon arrival, the police, led by spokesperson Bright Edafe, faced gunfire from the suspects but managed to respond with superior tactics, forcing the suspects to flee into the adjoining forest.

A search of the area resulted in the recovery of a pump-action gun, a cut-to-size double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, two expendable cartridges, seven vehicles, and six mobile phones, along with cult regalia believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects. The recovered items have been taken into police custody, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing to combat cultism and violent crime in the state.
