Police Disrupt Cult Initiation, Seize Firearms in Delta

On Monday, the Delta State Police Command, through its spokesman Bright Edaf, reported the successful thwarting of a cult initiation ceremony in Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government Area. The operation was executed by the command's quick response squad, which acted on credible intelligence regarding an illegal gathering by members of the Black Axe confraternity.

Police operatives stormed the initiation site, prompting suspects to open fire. In response, a shootout ensued, forcing the criminals to flee into the nearby forest.

During the operation, police recovered a pump-action gun, a cut-to-size double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, and two expended cartridges. Additionally, seven vehicles, six cell phones, and various cult regalia were abandoned at the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operation's courage and reaffirmed the command's commitment to curbing crime in the state, urging the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to maintain safety in Delta.
