Police Rescue Passengers in Edo State Kidnapping Attempt

On June 21, 2026, the Edo State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt on the Benin-Abraka road, rescuing passengers from a commercial bus belonging to Muyi Line Transport Company. The incident occurred near the NNPC pipeline, where armed hoodlums reportedly intercepted the bus and opened fire, forcing the driver to stop and divert into the bush.

The police received a distress call at 6:46 PM and swiftly mobilized a team from the Ugo Division to the scene. Upon arrival, the police engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, which led to the suspects abandoning their operation and fleeing into the surrounding forest due to the superior firepower of the police.

All passengers were rescued unharmed, except for Mr. Isaac Olotu, who sustained a pellet injury to his right toe during the attack.

He was immediately taken to Ugo Health Centre for treatment and later discharged. The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, CP Mondai Agbonika, has deployed a reinforcement team to track down the fleeing suspects and commended the bravery of the officers involved in the operation.
