Edo Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt on Benin-Abraka Road

On June 21, 2026, the Edo State Police Command, under the leadership of CSP Mose Yamu, successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Benin-Abraka Road. The incident involved armed men who intercepted a commercial bus belonging to Muyi Line Transport Company, which was traveling from Benin City to Abraka.

The suspects opened fire on the vehicle in an attempt to abduct its occupants. Upon receiving a distress call, the police's Operation Ugo Division swiftly mobilized to the scene, engaging the armed men in a gun duel.

The superior firepower and tactical response from the police forced the criminals to abandon their mission and flee into nearby bushes. During the incident, passenger Isaac Olotu sustained a pellet injury to his right toe and was taken to Ugo Health Centre for treatment.

The police have since deployed reinforcements to track down the fleeing suspects. Additionally, the command had previously arrested four suspects connected to a kidnapping incident at a market in Benin City on June 14, 2026.
