Ogun Police Thwart Kidnapping of Chinese National

On June 9, 2026, the Ogun State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping plot aimed at a Chinese national, arresting two suspects identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding an imminent abduction along the Ijebu-Ode-Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, a swift response team was mobilized to surveil the area, leading to the prompt interception and arrest of the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects conspired to abduct the Chinese national and demand a ransom of 50 million naira.

Notably, Onwuemena was employed as a driver within the victim's company, which facilitated the kidnapping plot. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover any accomplices and have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.

Commissioner Bode Ojajuni commended the officers involved for their professional vigilance and emphasized the importance of intelligence-led policing in crime prevention.
