Police Foil Kidnapping in Akwa Ibom, Recover Weapons

On September 8, 2026, at approximately 0605 hours, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully disrupted a planned kidnapping operation in Oron Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Marine Police, in collaboration with Marine Hunters, conducted a raid at a suspected criminal camp along the Calabar–Oron Channel.

The operation resulted in the recovery of significant items, including one Jojeef English pump-action gun, two cartridges, a white rope suspected for criminal use, two speedboats, and three 200HP outboard engines, along with one 15HP outboard engine. The police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, emphasized the operation as part of the command's proactive strategy to combat crime in the state’s riverine and coastal areas.

State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the commitment to preventing crime, urging public vigilance against suspicious activities.
