Rivers Police Enforce Movement Restrictions for Bye-Elections

The Rivers State Police Command announced movement restrictions in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas ahead of the bye-elections for the State House of Assembly scheduled for February 21, 2026. The restrictions will be in effect from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on election day as part of measures to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process.

The police urged residents to strictly comply with these directives to avoid unnecessary gatherings, particularly around polling units. A large-scale deployment of security personnel will be made across the two local government areas, with officers stationed at strategic locations, including polling units and major roads, to deter violence and electoral malpractice.

Rivers State Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju called on political parties and candidates to support the initiative and warned that anyone found violating the restrictions could face arrest and prosecution. He also advised parents and guardians to caution their children against using instruments of violence during the polls.
