Borno Police Seize Drug Consignment, Arrest Driver

On June 26, 2026, the Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid, intercepted a significant drug consignment during an operation conducted by the command's X Squad along the Baga Road bypass in Maiduguri. The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, resulted in the discovery of 55 sacks containing numerous 60ml bottles of an illicit substance popularly known as "gumm." Preliminary investigations indicated that the substance was being transported from Ngamboru in the Ngala Local Government Area, with the intent to smuggle it across the international border.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Babagana Modu, aged 51, was arrested during the operation. The police command has stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals connected to this illegal operation, and they have urged the public to continue providing credible information to help combat drug trafficking and criminal activities in the state.
