Police Arrest Two Men for Attempted Rape of Minor

The Cross River State Police Command arrested two men, Moris Monday, aged 68, and Asuquo Effiom, aged 70, in connection with the alleged attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl in the Thomas Henshaw area of Calabar. The arrests occurred on August 23, 2026, following a report from the victim’s father.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Monday allegedly lured the girl into his room and attempted to sexually assault her on two occasions, August 13 and 14, 2026. Effiom also allegedly lured the minor into his room and attempted to assault her on August 22, 2026.

After receiving the complaint, police investigators found the suspects in the custody of community members at Hokins Road near Thomas Henshaw Junction and took them into police custody. Both suspects denied the allegations during questioning.

The victim has been referred to a government-approved medical facility for examination, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal action.
