Ondo Police Neutralize Two Kidnappers in Gun Duel

On Wednesday, October 3, 2023, at approximately 3:30 AM, the Ondo State Police Command achieved a significant breakthrough in its efforts against kidnapping and violent crime by neutralizing two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel. The incident took place in Ilu Abo along the Akure-Owo Expressway, following a distress call about armed men at the Olaiya block industrial location beside Ilu Abo High School.

Preliminary reports indicate that seven masked armed men invaded the premises, demanding to see the owner. In response, a patrol team from the Federal Highway Patrol Unit mobilized to the scene, where they engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the suspects.

While two kidnappers were neutralized, other gang members escaped into the surrounding bush with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. Police recovered a local pistol, live cartridges, four mobile phones, several face masks, and two ATM cards believed to belong to the criminal syndicate.

The bodies of the deceased suspects were deposited at the state specialist hospital in Akure for necessary procedures, and the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnap Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
