Police Investigate Tricycle Rider's Death in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has initiated a preliminary investigation into the death of a commercial tricycle rider following a road accident linked to a traffic enforcement operation by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at Okaka Junction in Yenagoa. The incident occurred on Monday morning along the Okaka Expressway, near Okaka Primary School, where the tricycle reportedly collided with a Dangote truck.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the crash happened during an enforcement operation near an FRSC checkpoint, and residents claimed that the actions of the officers contributed to the accident. Following the incident, local youth protested, expressing outrage over the death of the tricycle rider, described as a hardworking father who earned a living for his family.

The police confirmed the investigation's commencement, while Musa Muhammad, the police public relations officer, stated that law and order had been restored. Sylvanu Ok Ordu, the FRSC sector commander, denied that the agency's personnel were responsible for the accident, asserting that their officers left the scene and did not evade responsibility, while the truck driver involved was apprehended and is currently in police custody.
