Police question Osun senator over remarks against Accord Party

The Osun State Police Command questioned Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Osun East on Wednesday following a campaign video that sparked public outcry. The senator was invited to police headquarters in Osogbo to explain remarks made during an All Progressives Congress rally in Ilesa, where he allegedly directed supporters to confront members of the Accord Party.

During his interrogation, Fadahunsi told officers that his language about 'killing' the Accord Party was figurative and intended to describe electoral defeat, not physical violence against party members or their families. The senator maintained that he was encouraging lawful voting rather than any form of attack.

The Accord Party has rejected this explanation and demanded Fadahunsi's arrest and prosecution for incitement to violence. Through its National Publicity Secretary, the party characterised the remarks as a serious threat to its members and supporters as the state prepared for Saturday's gubernatorial contest.

Civil Society Organisations have also condemned the senator's statements as dangerous. The police invitation was issued on August 11, 2026, one day after the video went viral on social media.

Fadahunsi answered the summons and spent several hours at the State Criminal Investigation Department before departing the police facility. The incident occurred just days before the scheduled election, intensifying tensions between the ruling APC and the opposition Accord Party in the state.
