Police Rescue Five Abducted Travellers in Benue State

On Thursday night, a group of travellers was abducted while travelling in a commercial passenger bus from Enugu State to Abuja. The Benue State Police Command, led by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Peter Aondongu, initiated a coordinated rescue operation early Friday morning.

During the operation, five victims were rescued amidst a gun duel with the suspected kidnappers. Among the rescued was a four-year-old boy, while one individual sustained a gunshot injury and was taken to a medical facility in Otukpo for treatment.

Aondongu reported that nine other abducted travellers are still being held by the kidnappers, and efforts are ongoing to rescue them safely. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, assured families and the public that measures are being taken to secure the release of the remaining victims and urged local residents to remain calm and vigilant, providing any credible information that could assist the operation.
