Police Rescue 16 Abducted Worshippers in Ekiti State

On April 28, 2026, gunmen attacked the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ekiti State, during a service, leading to the abduction of 16 worshippers, including women, children, and an elderly woman. The assailants initially demanded a ransom of 1 billion Naira, which was later reduced to 50 million Naira, although reports indicated that 10.5 million Naira was paid along with other items.

The Ekiti State Police Command, led by spokesperson Sundai Abutu, announced the successful rescue of the victims following an intelligence-led operation that involved collaboration with military security agencies, Amotekun Corps, and local hunters. The police commissioner, Falad Adegoroy, commended the professionalism of the security agencies and acknowledged the support from Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing security operations.
