Reps Demand Action for Abducted Worshippers in Ekiti

On April 28, 2026, during a plenary session, Kolawole Akinlayo, a member representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency, urged security agencies to launch coordinated operations to rescue worshippers abducted during a deadly attack at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Ekiti State. The attack resulted in the death of the church's president pastor and the abduction of 16 worshippers.

Initially, the abductors demanded a ransom of N1 billion, later reduced to N50 million, with the community raising N10.5 million, but the victims remain captive. Akinlayo recounted that the armed assailants invaded the church during an open-air crusade, using sophisticated weapons and operating without resistance for several minutes.

The House condemned the attack, expressing sympathy for affected families, and called on the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces of Nigeria, and relevant agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted worshippers and bring the attackers to justice. The lawmakers also emphasized the need for improved security measures in vulnerable communities.
