Police Rescue INEC Official from Kidnappers in Zamfara

On July 7, 2026, at approximately 3:30 PM, around 50 armed bandits on motorcycles attacked a village near Ruwan Bore in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, Zamfara State, rustling a large number of cattle. During the attack, a woman sustained gunshot injuries and was evacuated to a general hospital in Talata Mafara for treatment.

Following this incident, the bandits moved towards Gummi Local Government Area and abducted Mr. Aliyu Moham, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who was transporting examination scripts for secondary schools. His vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux with registration number FG 853 V01, was later found abandoned.

The police, responding to distress calls, recovered the vehicle and the examination scripts. On July 8, 2026, a combined team of police and military personnel engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the rescue of Mr. Moham unharmed and the recovery of hundreds of rustled cattle.

Several bandits escaped with gunshot injuries.
