Zamfara Police Thwart Bandit Attack, Avert IED Threat

On August 12, 2026, the Zamfara State Police Command, led by spokesperson Yazid Abubakar, successfully foiled a bandit attack on security personnel during a tree-planting exercise at the Zurmi Muslims’ Praying Ground. Armed bandits engaged the officers, who returned fire, forcing the attackers to retreat into a nearby forest.

Evidence indicated that some bandits sustained injuries. Fortunately, no security personnel or civilians were harmed.

In a separate incident on the same day, a suspected improvised explosive device exploded along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, causing panic but resulting in no injuries or fatalities. The police deployed an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to secure the area.

Abubakar urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. This incident follows a previous explosion on June 15, where three police officers were killed while attempting to defuse an explosive device on the Anka–Bagega Road.
