Police Launch Manhunt for Attackers of Bauchi Student

On April 23, 2026, a 22-year-old female student named Maryam Yakini was attacked by unidentified suspects armed with a machete and knife near Villa Lodge in Gadau, Bauchi State. The attack, reported to the Bauchi State Police Command, resulted in serious injuries to Yakini, including severe damage to her left thumb and ear.

She is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Azare. The assailants also robbed her of personal belongings, including two ATM cards and her school identification card.

Police spokesperson Nafiu Habib confirmed the incident and dismissed false claims circulating on social media regarding the nature of the attack. He emphasized the police's commitment to ensuring student safety and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.

The university's management, represented by Auwal Hassan, clarified that the attack occurred outside the university premises, contrary to misleading reports. Vice Chancellor Fatimah Tahir reaffirmed the institution's dedication to student safety across its campuses.
