Bishop Kukah Receives Vatican Appointment from Pope Leo IV

Pope Leo IV has appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto as a member of the Dicastery for Integral Human Development in Vatican City. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by Fr.

Pascal Salifu, the director of communications for the Diocese of Sokoto. Bishop Kukah received formal notification of his appointment through a letter signed by Cardinal Peter Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State.

He will serve a five-year term alongside several senior Catholic leaders from around the world, including Cardinal Walter McElroy of Washington, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, Cardinal Conrad Krajewski of Poland, and Archbishop Fulgence Mugalu of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Dicastery addresses major issues connected to the Catholic Church's social teachings, including human rights, migration, environmental protection, and social ethics.

Bishop Kukah previously served in various international roles within the Catholic Church and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the global church, describing the appointment as a privilege.
