Kannywood Actor Umar Ascon Passes Away at 2026

Umar Ascon, a well-known Kannywood actor recognized for portraying Alhaji Lado Mai Barkono in the long-running television series "Garwashi," has died. His death was confirmed by fellow Kannywood producer Abubakar Yahaya Matinko on March 14, 2026.

Ascon passed away at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, leaving behind a pregnant wife and two daughters. His funeral prayer took place at Al-Masjlisul Islami Mosque, located near the Gade Gade filling station, where he was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

In addition to his acting career, Ascon was a businessman operating Hotoro Depot in Kano. He gained recognition in the Kannywood film industry through various Hausa films, including "Wata Shida" and "Manyan Mata.".
