Peter Obi Questions Tinubu's Absence at UN Assembly

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, raised concerns regarding President Bola Tinubu's absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on September 27. Obi contrasted the visibility of Ghanaian President John Mahama at the event with Nigeria's lack of representation, emphasizing the importance of the president's presence amid domestic and global challenges.

While acknowledging that Vice-President Kashim Shettima attended on behalf of Nigeria, Obi felt the delegation did not adequately address his concerns. In response, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that Tinubu was in good health and entitled to a working vacation, detailing his recent meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, as well as a $7 billion deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu was expected to return to Nigeria by September 29 to celebrate the country's 66th Independence Anniversary and attend a film premiere in Lagos.
