New Deadline for National Policing Bill Submissions Set

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has announced an extension of the deadline for public submissions on the proposed legislation to Friday, August 21, 2026, at 5pm West Africa Time. This extension, initially set to close on August 13, was announced by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu and Chairman of the Working Group.

The decision aims to allow more time for individuals, institutions, and organizations to contribute to the proposed policing reforms. The National Policing Bill seeks to establish a comprehensive framework for effective policing in Nigeria, addressing operational, administrative, institutional, and funding aspects while enhancing accountability and professionalism.

Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of broad stakeholder participation, urging legal practitioners, civil society organizations, and other relevant parties to submit their memoranda through the official portal. The Working Group plans to produce a final draft of the National Policing Bill for legislative processing after the consultation period.
